How to Use the DocuCareer AI CV Analysis Tool: A Step-by-Step Guide

Published on 2026-09-16

In earlier articles we covered how ATS software works and how to pick the right keywords. This time we answer a more concrete question: how do you actually apply that knowledge to your own CV using DocuCareer AI's CV Analysis tool?

1. Enter Your CV

On the home page, you can add your CV to the "Your CV" field in two ways:

  • Upload a PDF: Use the "πŸ“„ Click to Upload PDF CV" button to upload your existing CV as a PDF; the system reads the text automatically and drops it into the field.
  • Paste it manually: If your CV isn't a PDF, or PDF reading runs into an issue, you can paste the text directly into the field.

If you don't have a polished CV yet, you can build one first with the site's CV Builder tool and move straight into the analysis page from there β€” the two tools are linked.

2. Paste the Job Posting

Paste the full text of the job posting you're applying to into the "Job Posting Text" field. The more complete the paste (requirements, responsibilities, and preferred qualifications included), the more accurate the analysis β€” the system extracts missing keywords directly from this text.

3. Run the Analysis and Read the Report

Clicking "Analyze Match" requires you to be logged in with at least 1 credit in your account (new accounts start with a few free credits). Once the analysis finishes, the report includes:

  • Match score: Your CV's overall percentage overlap with the posting.
  • Overall Assessment: A short summary.
  • βœ… Strengths: Experience/skills that already overlap with the posting.
  • ⚠️ Missing Keywords: Terms that appear in the posting but not in your CV.
  • πŸ’‘ Suggested Improvements: Concrete, actionable fixes.

Re-analyzing the same CV and posting should give you similar results β€” the system is designed to run with low randomness for consistency.

4. Optional: Cover Letter and Improved CV

Two extra options appear below the analysis result:

  • ✍️ Generate Cover Letter: Produces a cover letter draft tailored to the analyzed CV and posting (uses a separate credit).
  • πŸ“ Generate Improved CV: Reorganizes the real information in your CV into a more ATS-friendly version β€” the key point here is that the system only rearranges the real information you provided, never inventing experience or skills (uses a separate credit).

Both outputs can be copied to your clipboard with "πŸ“‹ Copy," and the report can also be downloaded as a PDF with "πŸ“„ Download PDF."

5. How to Read the Result

Treat the match score not as a pass/fail grade, but as a map of where to focus. The missing-keywords list shows which real experience you should be highlighting more prominently for this specific role β€” rather than just tacking a missing term onto your CV, if you genuinely have experience that maps to it, reflecting that in a concrete sentence gives you a stronger result both for the ATS and later in the interview.
